Pogonomyrmex rugosus is a species of ant known as The Rough Harvester Ant. It is common throughout Arizona's deserts and other dry environments throughout the Western United States.

Whilst this ant gathers seeds, workers are also observed to bring in large selections of insect prey items. Pogonomyrmex rugosus is capable of delivering a painful sting.
