Pheidole pallidula is a species from the Mediterranean basin where it can rapidly colonise new areas.
The queen is typically 8 mm in length with the minor workers being 1.5 - 2.5 mm and the major workers (soldiers) being 3 - 5 mm in length.
An experiment on 40 large Pheidole pallidula colonies by the Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse, showed that when exposed to constant threats by rival ant colonies, the rate at which soldiers are produce will be increased to counter the threat.
