Home > Ant Observations > How do ants breath? Ant respiratory system

Air is distributed through an ants respiratory system by tracheae; these open at the stigmata or spiracles. Ten pairs of spiracles are present, eight of which occur on the eight basal abdominal segments - a pair each on the meso- and metathorax.
