The term supermajor is sometimes encountered in the myrmecological community and is used to refer to the very largest worker subcaste.
Species which are trimorphic (possess three differing worker phenotypes) have a 'supermajor' (sometimes called 'supersoldier') worker subcaste in addition to the normal 'minor' and 'major'.
In the case of ants, there are no intermediate gradations between forms - no middle ground caste between 'minor' and 'major' or between 'major' and 'supermajor'.
