Whilst it is not fully understood if ants have memories, there is observational evidence to suggest that Red Harvester Ant (Pogonomyrmex barbatus) workers have memories of approximately 10 seconds. An experiment conducted by Deborah Gordon and colleagues with scented beads to stimulate reactions in the colony, found that introducing the scents at longer frequencies yielded no reaction.
