Home > Frequently Asked Questions > Can I keep Ants as Pets?

Ants can be kept as 'pets'. OK, so you can't stroke them like a cat or a dog, but they can create an impressive display like Fish, and we think they can be much more interesting!

In most cases, a small number of 'wild' worker ants can be collected and this will not have a long-lasting detrimental impact on the colony. If you release them when you're done keeping them as pets, better still!

You will find guides on this site on collecting ants and on which ants to keep. You'll also find instructions on build a formicarium to keep your ants in.
