A formicarium is a purposefuly designed enclosure used to contain and study ants.

The classic ant farm is made of two glass or plastic panels which are close enough so the tunnels and cavities made by the ants can be seen.

Commercially, the sale of formicariums goes back as far as the 1930's and The Uncle Milton Ant Farm® is perhaps the best known, 20 million of which been sold worldwide.
